Q: How should I tie down the sides if I still want to use my awning?

Usually you will be able to find a way to strap it down to the sides and avoid the awning, however in some cases its unavoidable. Most of our customers that are full timers attach the top strap and bottom strap to the RV then leave the top straps hanging (so they are not attached in the middle). So when they are using the awning (when there is no high wind) the straps just dangle or rest on the awning. Then if high winds are coming and they need to close their awnings, they will close the awning and attach the bottom strap piece through the buckle of the top strap piece to secure it.

How does the Shade RV Canopy handle wind?

We designed and tested the Shade RV canopy on the Texas coast where the canopy was successfully able to withstand wind speeds up to 70mph during our testing. The canopy must be installed per our installation instructions and must be properly sized for your RV. If the canopy is too long, or if it is not installed correctly, the wind speed ratings may be reduced.

Why doesn't the Shade RV Canopy cover 100% of the roof?

Our product attaches to your RV with a tension based system using tie down straps and no permanent mounting. It is designed to only cover ~90% of the RV rooftop.

How do AC units perform with the Shade RV Canopy?

Accepted Answer

Our standard canopy has an arch height of approximately 22" which should provide adequate clearance for AC units. The canopy also has scalloped edges and 4" vent holes cut at the fiberglass arches to provide additional airflow and improved ventilation for A/C units. If your A/C units are top venting (slots on top of the AC unit instead of a solid housing) we advise using with caution/monitoring your AC as there is reduced clearance for ventilation.

Will this work with my TV/satellite dish, antenna, or solar panel?

Our canopy has an arch height of approximately 22" and should be able to arch over the top of any low profile satellite dish, antenna, and solar panel. We unfortunately cannot definitively say if the canopy will affect the performance of these items.

How do I clean and maintain this product?

The shade canopy is made of durable HDPE and is mostly self cleaning from wind and rain. You can gently brush away loose debris, spray the fabric using a low-pressure water hose, scrub with a soft-bristled brush, and allow it to air-dry completely. Mild detergents (e.g. dish soap) may be used if necessary.

Does your product only come in one color?

Our standard product that we offer is beige, which is one of the best colors to reflect solar radiation and keep the space beneath the canopy cooler than darker colors.

What is the canopy made of?

The canopy is made of a 95% UV-blocking high-density polyethylene (HDPE) shade mesh netting. Tie down straps are made of commercial-grade standard 2" seatbelt webbing. Support arches are made of 1/2" dual catalyst fiberglass rods.

How does the canopy handle rain, hail, and falling objects?

Our product repels 85% of rain with most running directly off of the canopy. A fine mist and drips comes through the netting of the Shade RV Canopy. This drastically reduces the sound of rain on your roof. The canopy is also designed to provide protection from from hail and other falling objects (small branches, tree nuts, etc.).

How does this hold up in the snow?

The Shade RV Canopy can handle light snow load (< 2"). Heavy snow load may damage the fiberglass support structure, so it is best to try to remove snow with a broom or something that won't puncture the canopy netting.

There are a few ways to store your Shade RV Canopy when not in use. The quickest way would be to roll the whole thing up snug like a rug. Another option would be to remove the fiberglass rods that form the arch and fold the material and store them seperately that way.

Yes! We have developed an Airstream Strap Kit specifically designed to attach to Airstreams which includes 8 corner tie down straps instead of the standard 4 tie down straps. How to measure your Airstream:From reflector to reflector on the side of your RV. We recommend a canopy size that is 1' longer than the measurement from reflector to reflector. If you have any questions or concerns with how to measure simply email us a side view photo of your RV and we can assist. The Shade RV Canopy is shipped in a box with measurements of approximately 47"x15"x13". The total weight varies but is approximately 1.4 x size ordered. For example, a 30' canopy will weigh approximately 42 pounds.

How do I measure my RV for this product?

Refer to our MEASURE page for more details. For all RV types: get the measurement of your rubber roof from where it starts at the front of the RV to where it ends at the back end. Always round your measurement DOWN to the closest foot. It is better for the canopy to be shorter rather than too long. If you need assistance with measuring, please send side view photos of your RV to support@shaderv.com and we can assist you.All of our standard canopies are made for an 8' finished width. Airstreams or 7' wide RVs are considered a custom order and are not kept in stock. Please add a note to your order if you need a custom order.Please Note: All finished canopy measurements are taken from corner to corner (where the tie down straps attach), not from center to center. Canopies are made approximately 1-1.5' shorter (corner to corner) than the size ordered to allow for stretching up to the full length during installation. How long will my shipment take?

We keep all standard (8' wide) canopies between 20' and 40' in stock. Orders are shipped in the order they are received and can usually ship within 2 business days. Shipments are sent on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For custom orders (airstreams or 7' finished width) or canopies that are out of stock, please allow for additional time (typically up to 5 business days) to ship. We ship via UPS Ground from our manufacturing warehouse located in Converse, TX, so it may take a few business days to arrive once shipped.

How easy is it to install?

It is possible to install the canopy with 1 person, but is fastest and easiest if you have someone to assist. Only a ladder is required to complete installation. The initial installation may take a bit longer as you are getting a feel for how to position the canopy on the RV to avoid any rooftop components and to find the best locations to strap it down.
